S&P sees little Malaysia budget consolidation (Business Times (Malaysia))

Malaysia will not take any major action to rein in its surging budget deficit next year due to risks to economic growth in this export dependent Southeast Asian country, credit ratings agency Standard & Poor’s said.

Roughly two-thirds of Haiti’s total debt was canceled Tuesday when three organizations that provide financial assistance to poor countries announced they’re forgiving $1.2 billion of what the Caribbean country owes.

The United States and Indonesia signed an agreement in which the largest Southeast Asian nation will commit to protect tropical forests in return for reduced debt payments to Washington, officials said Tuesday.
